Commitment to accessibility

Hospital Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona is firmly committed to ensuring that its website is accessible, in accordance with Royal Decree 1112/2018, of 7 September on the accessibility of websites and mobile applications in the public sector.

Our philosophy of care and attention to people extends to the digital environment. We believe that health information and services must be available to everyone, without barriers that impede access, regardless of users’ technical, physical, sensory or cognitive abilities.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with Royal Decree 1112/2018. Although significant improvements have been implemented and an advanced assistive tool has been integrated, some exceptions or areas for improvement may remain, as detailed below.

Content not accessible

The content listed below is not accessible for the following reasons:

1. Non‑conformity with Royal Decree 1112/2018:
   • Office documents: Some PDF documents published since the website’s launch may not fully meet accessibility requirements. They are being reviewed and progressively replaced.
   • Multimedia content: Some videos may lack professional subtitles or detailed transcripts, which would constitute partial non‑compliance with WCAG criterion 1.2.
   • Third‑party content: Content not under the Hospital’s control, such as social‑media components or embedded maps, cannot be modified by us and may present accessibility barriers.
2. Disproportionate burden:
   • Not applicable.

This statement was prepared on 17 June 2025.

The method used to prepare the statement was an external accessibility audit by EqualWeb, the results and remediations of which are described on this page, complemented by periodic internal self‑assessments by the Hospital.

Measures implemented to improve accessibility

To achieve WCAG 2.2 AA compliance and offer an inclusive web experience, the Hospital has implemented EqualWeb’s automatic AI‑based accessibility solution. This tool applies a two‑pronged approach:

1. Automatic remediation and site compatibility: EqualWeb continuously analyses the site’s code (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and applies automatic fixes to ensure compliance with WCAG 2.2 and compatibility with assistive technologies such as the JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver screen readers.
2. User accessibility interface: Via the accessibility icon, any user can customise the site’s display and navigation to suit their needs. The available features include:
   • Pre-configured accessibility profiles:
     • Visual‑impairment profile: Improves overall site visibility.
     • Epilepsy‑safe profile: Eliminates flashes and reduces colour to protect photosensitive individuals.
     • Cognitive‑disability profile: Assists reading and concentration with support options.
     • ADHD‑friendly profile: Reduces distractions to improve focus.
     • Screen‑reader profile: Enables full compatibility with screen readers.
     • Keyboard‑navigation (motor) profile: Allows navigation using keys such as Tab, Shift+Tab and Enter.
3. Content and reading adjustments:
   • Content scaling: Increases the size of all content up to 200 per cent.
   • Readable font: Switches to a highly legible typeface
   • Highlight titles and links: Visually emphasises navigation elements.
   • Text magnifier: Enlarges text on hover.
   • Text adjustments: Allows individual modification of font size and line spacing.
   • Text alignment: Allows text to be aligned left, right, centred or justified.
4. Colour and display adjustments:
   • Contrast modes: Dark, light and high‑contrast options to improve legibility.
   • Colour adjustments: Monochrome and high‑saturation modes, plus manual adjustment of text, heading and background colours.
   • Invert colours: Inverts the site’s colour palette.
5. Navigation and orientation adjustments:
   • Mute sounds and stop animations: Removes auditory and visual distractions.
   • Hide images: Allows navigation through textual content without loading images.
   • Reading guide and reading mask: Tools that help users follow text lines.
   • Large cursor: Enlarges the mouse pointer in white or black.
   • Online dictionary: Enables look‑up of term definitions without leaving the page.

Commitment to continuous improvement

We make ongoing efforts to maintain and improve this portal’s accessibility. We understand accessibility not only as a legal requirement but as a pillar of our commitment to inclusion and equal opportunities.
